Woman Arrested After Attacking Two with Crowbar at Cowpokes

LUBBOCK, TX — A woman was arrested Sunday night after an alleged altercation involving a crowbar in the parking lot of Cowpokes left two people injured, including one woman with a severe head wound.

According to court documents, Lubbock Police officers were dispatched to 2216 I-27 in response to a civil disturbance. When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting on the ground, bleeding heavily from her forehead, and surrounded by a crowd. She was holding a towel to her head in an attempt to stop the bleeding. A second victim, a man, was also found at the scene with head injuries.

A third person, the male victim’s sister, told officers that she had also been hit during the altercation. She identified the alleged attacker as Mary Jane Arzola, 20, who reportedly walked past the woman at Cowpokes and yelled “Puta” in Spanish, which they said is what started the fight.

According to witness statements, Arzola retrieved a crowbar from a green Ford pickup truck and hit the female victim in the forehead before fleeing the scene. The witness was able to snap a photo of the license plate of the vehicle as it left.

Shortly after, an officer spotted the green Ford pickup in the 1500 block of Avenue Q and conducted a traffic stop. Arzola, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, matched the suspect description provided by multiple witnesses: a Hispanic female, approximately 5'2", thin, wearing a black top and black pants, with her hair in a bun.

Police say Arzola admitted to being at Cowpokes during the altercation. She told officers she picked up the crowbar from another woman and threw it on the ground before leaving the scene because she was attacked. She claimed she returned later to pick up a cousin, who was also involved in the fight.

Based on witness statements, matching descriptions, and her admission of being at the scene, officers arrested Mary Jane Arzola for Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

She was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, where she remains held on a $50,000 bond.
