HOBBS, NM — A manhunt is underway in Hobbs following a deadly shooting that left one man dead and another injured late Friday evening.
According to the Hobbs Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of East Lincoln Street on June 6. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital by EMS. One was later airlifted to a hospital in Texas and has since been released.
The second victim, identified as Ismael Rios, 19, of Hobbs, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
During the initial investigation, police identified the suspected shooter as Michael Alonzo Wynne Garcia, 20. Officers located Garcia in a vehicle just a few blocks from the shooting scene. However, when they attempted to detain him, Garcia fled at high speed and remains at large.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Garcia on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (a third-degree felony), and aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer (a fourth-degree felony).
He was last seen driving a red Toyota Camry with Texas license plate TYL7444, registered in his name.
The Hobbs Police Department continues to investigate and urges anyone with information about the incident or Garcia’s whereabouts to call (575) 397-9265 immediately.
