LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock has announced the four artists selected for this year’s Storm Drain Art Project.
Michelle Guerra, Edith Sanchez, Ashley Benton, and Willis Bagley will each paint their winning mural designs on storm drains at the intersection of 13th Street and Texas Avenue starting June 2.
Their work will be unveiled as part of the First Friday Art Trail on June 6.
The project is organized by the City’s Stormwater Compliance Department and will raise awareness on how stormwater flows through the city. The City will provide environmentally safe paints and materials so the artwork does not impact the drainage system.
Once finished, the murals are expected to last three to five years, says the city.
Each artist will receive $1,000 for their contribution. After the murals are complete, the public will have a chance to vote for their favorite online. The artist whose work gets the most votes will earn an additional $250 prize.
You can cast your vote at https://mylubbock.us/stormdrainartproject once voting opens.
