Lubbock's Metro Tower General Store Closes After One Year

LUBBOCK, TX — After just over a year in business, Colbert’s General Store in downtown Lubbock is closing.

The store, located inside the Metro Tower, first opened on May 29, 2024, offering a mix of items including office supplies, hygiene products, snacks, and frozen food. It was one of the few convenience-style options in the downtown area.

Owner Chuck Colbert announced the closure in a Facebook post:

Hello everyone, I am here today with a mix of sadness and gratitude. After 1 year of hard work and dedication, we've decided to close Colbert's General Store. This decision wasn't made lightly, and I'm grateful for the support you've shown us this past year.

I want to thank our incredible team for their tireless efforts and commitment to our mission. Your passion and expertise have made our business thrive, and I'm honored to have worked alongside each of you. I never thought a business could thrive and not survive. I am afraid this is the case.

To our loyal customers, I appreciate your trust and loyalty. You've been the backbone of our business, and we're grateful for the opportunity to have served you.

As we move forward, we'll do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition. We'll be selling product, appliances, shelving and other items over the next 45 days. Also, we will be in negotiations for a great business to replace us in our downtown Lubbock location. If you or anyone you know would be interested, please contact me.

This change marks the end of a tough year, but it also opens doors to new opportunities. I'm confident that our team members will excel in their future endeavors, and our customers will find new favorite spots or return to this location to discover a new business dedicated to supporting downtown Lubbock.

Thank you again for being part of Colbert's General Stores journey. We'll always cherish the memories and experiences we've shared. Personally, I will remain a strong supporter for those suffering addiction, mental illness, and homelessness. The growth of downtown Lubbock will always be a priority for me. "Gone are the days when old men plant trees for which the shade they will never know." Let's change this together!

Do good and good will do you.

Love you all... really!"

The post did not mention a final closing date, but it did mention that they will be selling everything within the next 45 days.
