LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Animal Services will once again participate in NBCUniversal Local’s “Clear The Shelters” campaign, hosting its largest pet adoption event of the year on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3323 SE Loop 289.
This marks the eighth consecutive year Lubbock Animal Services (LAS) has joined the nationwide initiative, which aims to promote pet adoption and raise funds for animal welfare. Since its launch in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find homes and raised over $5 million for shelters and rescues.
"This annual event is our biggest adoption event of the year, and we want to find homes for as many animals as possible. This is an opportunity to rally our community together and raise awareness about how amazing shelter animals as family pets can be, and to teach our residents how rewarding animal adoption is," said Taylor Ruggles, Assistant Director of Animal Services at the City of Lubbock.
"Buying dogs and cats from breeders isn't the only way to find a beloved family pet. We hope that members of our community who are seeking to grow their families with a pet consider coming out to Lubbock Animal Services on August 9 to interact with the animals in our care, and hopefully adopt from the animal population we already have here in our community."
The event will include both in-person and virtual adoption options. For the seventh year, virtual adoptions will be available through the WeRescue app and website, allowing users to browse pets by breed, gender, size and more, submit applications, and communicate with shelters directly.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition is returning as the national sponsor for the eighth straight year. Additional campaign partners include Greater Good Charities and WeRescue.
