KANSAS CITY, MO — Former Texas Tech pitcher Caleb Freeman has been called up to the major leagues by the Chicago White Sox, the club announced Sunday.
Freeman, a 15th-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, spent seven years in the minor leagues before receiving his first big-league promotion. Over 158 career minor league appearances, the right-hander posted a 3.61 ERA, a 9-12 record, 20 saves, and 221 strikeouts across 177 innings pitched.
Freeman has excelled at Triple-A this season, going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 10 relief outings. He has struck out 16 in 13 1/3 innings and limited opposing hitters to a .140 batting average.
He joins former Texas Tech teammate Davis Martin on the White Sox roster as Chicago opened a four-game series Monday in Kansas City.
On Monday, Freeman pitched one inning against the Royals. He allowed one hit and one run and earned the win.
