Texas Tech Softball's Canady, Glasco Earn Top Big 12 Softball Honors

IRVING, TX — Texas Tech swept the top honors in the 2025 Big 12 softball awards as pitcher NiJaree Canady was named Pitcher of the Year and head coach Gerry Glasco earned Coach of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.

The Red Raiders, who captured their first Big 12 title with a 20-4 conference record, had a league-best four players named to the All-Big 12 First Team and tied with Arizona for the most overall selections.

Canady, the nation’s leader with a 0.89 ERA, was a unanimous choice for Pitcher of the Year. The Topeka, Kansas native recorded 237 strikeouts and just 32 walks, boasting a 7.41 strikeout-to-walk ratio — fourth best in the country. She also tallied 16 Big 12 wins and was named a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 finalist.

Glasco led Texas Tech to a 42-12 record in his first season at the helm, positioning the Red Raiders just four wins shy of the program’s single-season record.

Arizona’s Devyn Netz was named Big 12 Player of the Year. The senior batted .347 with 36 runs scored and 58 RBIs — second most in the league. As a two-way player, she also logged 133 innings in the circle, posting a 20-7 record and a 2.00 ERA.

BYU freshman Ilove’a Brittingham earned Freshman of the Year honors after leading the league with 67 RBIs and 20 home runs. She posted a 1.263 OPS and collected 130 total bases in 155 at-bats.

Baylor’s Shaylon Govan claimed both the Big 12 Batting Champion title and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, hitting .453 in league play while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in a public health master’s program. Teammate Presleigh Pilon was named Defensive Player of the Year with a .987 fielding percentage and involvement in 18 of Baylor’s 28 double plays.

The All-Big 12 First and Second Teams featured 18 total student-athletes, while 13 players were selected to the All-Freshman Team. Arizona, Arizona State, and Texas Tech each had three Second Team honorees. Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State each placed two players on the nine-member All-Defensive Team — which returned for the first time since 2015.

The awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players.
