LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock ISD has named Tanner Pylant as the new head girls basketball coach at the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, the district announced Friday.
Pylant joins the program after serving as an assistant and interim head coach for the girls basketball team at Coronado High School, where he guided the squad through the latter half of the 2023–24 season. In addition to his coaching experience, he is recognized as a “Master Teacher” under the state’s Teacher Incentive Allotment program, highlighting his leadership in both athletics and academics.
“Tanner is a strong leader who models character, integrity, and hard work,” said Lubbock ISD Executive Director of Athletics Mike Meeks. “His experience developing players and his enthusiasm for teaching make him a great fit for Talkington. We’re excited to see how he builds on the program’s foundation and empowers student-athletes to grow in confidence and skill.”
Pylant holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from Harding University and a master’s degree in secondary education from Lubbock Christian University.
He is expected to begin his new role immediately as preparations begin for the 2025–26 season.
