LUBBOCK, TX — With one week remaining in the regular season, Texas Tech will close out its home schedule Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against Abilene Christian at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Red Raiders (18-30) enter the contest looking to bounce back from a weekend series loss to UCF and build momentum heading into the Big 12 Championship, which begins May 21 in Arlington.
Texas Tech has already secured a spot in the 12-team Big 12 postseason tournament but currently sits in ninth place in the league standings. The Red Raiders can still finish anywhere between seventh and 11th. A No. 7 seed would set up a 4 p.m. first-round matchup against the No. 10 seed, while an eight vs. nine matchup would be played at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both games will air on ESPNU.
Tuesday's game will mark the second meeting this season between Texas Tech and Abilene Christian (29-19). The Red Raiders won the previous matchup 9-2 on April 21 in Abilene. In that victory, Tech scored multiple runs in four of the first five innings, including a three-run first off ACU starter Iain Campa. Eight of nine Red Raiders recorded a hit in the game, and all nine either tallied a hit or an RBI.
Freshman Jace Souza and junior Peyton Schulze led the offensive effort, each going 3-for-5. Schulze added two RBIs and scored twice.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the Red Raiders will travel to Provo to conclude the regular season with a three-game series at BYU, beginning Thursday. First pitch for the series opener is set for 7 p.m. CT (6 p.m. MT).
