Texas Tech Sits 2nd After Opening Round in NCAA Urbana Regional

Texas Tech, competing among 13 teams at the regional, posted a team score of 5-under-par 279 to sit two shots behind host and No. 14-ranked Illinois (277). UNLV is third at 3-under (281), while Troy sits fourth at 1-under (283). Long Beach State and Marquette are tied for fifth at 1-over (285).

Scott reached as low as 4-under on two occasions during his round. He opened on the back nine with three pars before birdieing holes 13 and 14 and eagling No. 15. A pair of bogeys on 16 and 17 dropped him back to 2-under at the turn. Another eagle on No. 1 moved him to 4-under, and he closed with seven pars and one bogey.

Ben Gregg also posted a strong showing for the Red Raiders, carding a 2-under 69 to finish the day tied for sixth place. Charlie DeLong, Connor Graham and Tim Wiedemeyer each recorded even-par rounds of 71, tying for 19th.

Texas Tech is the only team in the 13-team field with all five golfers inside the top 20 individually.

Second-round play resumes Tuesday at 8 a.m. CDT, with the final round set for Wednesday. The top five teams and the lowest individual not on an advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 23–28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
