LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock ISD has announced Gerardo Arzaga as the new head coach of the Lubbock High School girls basketball program.
Arzaga comes to Lubbock High from Frenship ISD, where he worked as a mathematics teacher and assistant coach for the girls' basketball and track teams. During his time there, the programs earned district, bi-district, area championships, and regional qualifications.
A graduate of Lubbock Christian University, Arzaga holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and played collegiate baseball at both LCU and Cochise Community College. He is bilingual, CDL-certified, and holds a secondary math teaching certification.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Arzaga to the Westerner family,” said Lubbock ISD Executive Director of Athletics Mike Meeks. “He brings not only competitive coaching experience but also a strong ability to connect with student-athletes. His leadership will be a great asset to the program.
“It’s an honor to lead the girls basketball program at Lubbock High,” said Coach Arzaga about joining the Westerner program. “I’m committed to building a culture of accountability, hard work, and pride—both on and off the court. I look forward to investing in our athletes and the Westerner community.”
He will officially step into the role this summer in preparation for the 2025–2026 basketball season.
