FORT WORTH, TX — Texas Tech senior quarterback Behren Morton was named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Davey O’Brien Award. An award that honors the top quarterback in the FBS.
Morton, entering his fifth season with the Red Raiders, has already been named to the Maxwell and Wuerffel Award watch lists this preseason. He is one of 36 quarterbacks selected for the O’Brien list, which includes a national-best eight players from the Big 12 Conference.
Texas Tech has gone 14-4 in games Morton has both started and finished since the start of the 2023 season, including a 9-3 mark at home. He has appeared in 33 games with 24 starts and has thrown for 6,209 career yards. He is on pace to surpass Red Raider legends Zebbie Lethridge (6,789), Billy Joe Tolliver (6,756) and B.J. Symons (6,378) to move into seventh place on the school’s all-time passing list.
The official midseason watch list will be released Oct. 21, followed by semifinalists on Nov. 12. Finalists will be announced Nov. 25, and the winner will be revealed during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 11, live on ESPN.
The Davey O’Brien Award, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious quarterback award, will be presented at the 49th annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner on Feb. 16, 2026, at The Fort Worth Club.
The award is part of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which includes 16 of the sport’s most prominent honors.
