SAN DIEGO, CA — Texas Tech soccer will begin its season on the road for the third straight year as the No. 25/19 Red Raiders face San Diego State on Thursday at 9 p.m. CT (7 p.m. PT) at the SDSU Sports Deck.
The matchup will be the fifth all-time meeting between the programs and the first since 2019, when Tech also opened the season against the Aztecs. Head coach Tom Stone’s squad enters the year ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 19 in the TopDrawer Soccer rankings, after being picked second in the 2025 Big 12 Preseason Poll with five players earning Preseason All-Big 12 honors.
Defender Macy Blackburn, the top-ranked defender in the country by TopDrawer Soccer, was named a Preseason First Team All-American and projected Big 12 Player of the Year. She’s joined on the Preseason All-Big 12 list by goalkeeper Faith Nguyen, midfielders Peyton Parsons and Sam Courwright, and forward Taylor Zdrojewski. Courwright returns after missing 2024 due to injury, while Nguyen, a UCLA transfer, posted 10 shutouts last season.
Thursday’s contest begins a stretch where four of Tech’s first six matches are away from Lubbock, including a California road swing against No. 16 Santa Clara and San Francisco. The Red Raiders will host Youngstown State on Aug. 17 for their home opener.
