No. 21 Texas Tech Hosts Oregon State in Final Non-Conference Test

LUBBOCK, TX — No. 21 Texas Tech will look to close non-conference play with a perfect record Saturday afternoon as the Red Raiders host Oregon State for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Jones AT&T Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on FOX.

Texas Tech (2-0) enters the matchup riding high after back-to-back routs of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Kent State, outscoring opponents 129-21. Oregon State (0-2), meanwhile, is still searching for its first win of the season. Saturday’s meeting marks just the second all-time between the two programs and the first since 1959.

The game will air live on FOX with Tim Brando (play-by-play), Devin Gardner (analyst), and Josh Sims (sideline) on the call. Fans can also stream the game via the FOX Sports app.

Radio coverage will be provided by the Texas Tech Sports Network across 46 affiliates in Texas and New Mexico, featuring Brian Jensen, John Harris, and Chris Level. The game will also be available on SiriusXM channel 83 and the Varsity App.

Texas Tech is on pace to sell out Jones AT&T Stadium for the third consecutive week. Fewer than 500 single-game tickets remained as of Monday, Sept. 8. The first two home games were announced as sellouts on Aug. 28 and Sept. 4, respectively.

Season tickets sold out in early May for the third straight year, with over 33,000 passes sold. Tickets for remaining games against Kansas (Oct. 11), BYU (Nov. 8), and UCF (Nov. 15) are still available, while the Oct. 25 game vs. Oklahoma State is already sold out.

Texas Tech leads the nation in offensive fireworks, averaging 64.5 points per game and 604.5 yards of total offense, ranking second and third nationally, respectively. The Red Raiders are the only FBS team to open the season with back-to-back 60-point games.

Quarterback Behren Morton has been a key catalyst, throwing multiple touchdown passes in six straight games—tied for the longest active streak in the FBS. Tech has scored at least 50 points in each of its last four starts.

Receiver Reggie Virgil has three touchdown receptions this season and has now scored in nine of his last 10 games, dating back to his time at Miami (Ohio).

The Texas Tech defense is also off to a dominant start, allowing just 21 total points—all in the second half after starters exited. Pro Football Focus grades Tech’s defense as the second-best in the country (92.8) and ranks its pass rush No. 1 (90.9), with 51 total pressures through two games.

Defensive linemen David Bailey and Romello Height have combined for 18 of those pressures. Skyler Gill-Howard was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after returning an interception 55 yards for a touchdown against Kent State.

The Red Raiders jumped to No. 20 in the AFCA Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the AP Top 25 following their win over Kent State. Texas Tech has been ranked in both polls for three straight weeks—their first time entering a season ranked since 2008.

This is the second all-time meeting between Texas Tech and Oregon State. The Red Raiders edged the Beavers 15-14 in 1959, overcoming a 14-0 deficit with two touchdowns and a late extra point by Kenneth Talkington.

Saturday's game opens a home-and-home series between the programs. Texas Tech will travel to Corvallis in Week 2 of the 2026 season.

Texas Tech has faced multiple Pac-12 opponents since 2016, including Arizona State, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington State. The Red Raiders went 2-1 against former Pac-12 teams in 2024 and will face both Arizona State and Utah later this season.

Saturday will also feature a unique sibling matchup: Texas Tech sophomore wide receiver Kelby Valsin will square off against his older brother, Oregon State senior receiver Jimmy Valsin III. Both hail from Arlington, Texas, and starred at Bowie High School.

Jimmy Valsin has recorded 12 receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns so far this season for the Beavers.
