LUBBOCK, TX — Gas prices across Texas remain unchanged this week, with the statewide average holding at $2.75 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
While prices have remained steady the past few weeks, Texans are still paying 29 cents less per gallon than they were this time last year.
Of the major metro areas surveyed, Dallas drivers pay the most on average, $2.93 per gallon, while those in the Lubbock area pay the lowest prices in the state, $2.60 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded stands at $3.14, a two-cent drop from last week and 36 cents lower than a year ago.
Crude oil prices, currently holding in the low $60s per barrel, have been keeping pump prices relatively low, even as summer travel demand increases. Gasoline inventories remain healthy, and production levels are meeting seasonal demand.
"Texas gas prices posted a mix of local increases and decreases that added up to an unchanged statewide average over the past week," said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
“Crude oil prices have held steady, helping to keep average prices under $3 a gallon statewide even as demand rises. Crude oil is the main ingredient in gasoline and makes up approximately 50 percent of the cost of each gallon of fuel.”
