Texas Gas Prices Dip as Summer Travel Begins, Lubbock Among Lowest

LUBBOCK, TX — Texas drivers are seeing a slight drop in gas prices heading into the summer travel season, according to AAA Texas.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is now $2.75, down one cent from last week and 27 cents lower than the same time last year. Despite a steady rise in demand with more people hitting the road for summer vacations, prices remain below 2024 levels.

Among Texas’ major metro areas, El Paso continues to report the highest average at $2.90 per gallon, while Laredo drivers are paying the least at $2.51 per gallon. Lubbock drivers are paying an average of $2.55.

Nationally, the average stands at $3.13, which is two cents lower than last week and 32 cents below last year’s average.

“Even with more travelers on the road for summer vacations, fuel prices remain slightly below where they were a year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “The lower cost of crude oil has helped soften the impact of higher demand, but drivers are seeing the year-over-year gap narrow somewhat as the summer progresses.”

West Texas Intermediate crude is currently trading about $11 per barrel lower than it was in June 2024, contributing to the modest prices at the pump.

Still, with seasonal demand on the rise, AAA expects fuel prices could continue to fluctuate in the weeks ahead.
