WACO, TX — Texas Tech claimed its second Big 12 Women’s Tennis Tournament title and first since 2017 on Sunday, defeating UCF 4-2 at the Hurd Tennis Center to cap a historic season as undisputed conference champions.
Junior Yekaterina Dmitrichenko was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after finishing 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles during the tournament. She clinched both the Big 12 regular season title and the tournament crown for the No. 15 Lady Raiders (22-2), who finished in a three-way tie atop the conference with UCF and Oklahoma State during the regular season.
Texas Tech earned the doubles point after wins on courts one and two. No. 7 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova scored a 6-2 victory over UCF’s No. 41-ranked pair Olivia Lincer and Hannah Rylatt. Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy secured the point with a 6-4 win on court two, snapping a 13-match win streak by their UCF opponents.
In singles play, Tech extended its lead to 2-0 when Jermine Sherif cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six. UCF responded with wins on courts five and three to tie the match 2-2. Andreea Lila regained the lead for Tech, defeating Jade Psonka 6-2, 6-3 at line four.
Dmitrichenko sealed the match on court two, rallying in both sets for a 6-4, 6-4 win over Aya El Aouni. Sayfetdinova’s match at No. 1 singles remained unfinished after forcing a third set.
Texas Tech now awaits its NCAA Tournament fate, with the selection show set for Monday, April 28.
