LUBBOCK, TX — No. 11 Texas Tech rolled to its 40th win of the season and set a program record with its 20th shutout, defeating Abilene Christian 9-0 in five innings Tuesday night at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Red Raiders (40-11, 18-3 Big 12) reached the 40-win mark for the first time since 2012 and completed the home slate with an 18-2 record, the best home winning percentage in program history.
Chloe Riassetto (7-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Samantha Lincoln closed out the final two innings, giving up just one hit to preserve the shutout.
Texas Tech took control with a pair of RBI singles from Alana Johnson and Bailey Lindemuth in the second inning, then broke the game open with a five-run third. NiJaree Canady hit her seventh home run of the season, while Johnson and Victoria Valdez each added RBIs. Mihyia Davis also scored in the inning on a throwing error after tagging up to third.
Davis added another run in the fourth inning, scoring on a throw down to second as Demi Elder stole the base. Lauren Allred capped the scoring with an RBI double, finishing the game 3-for-3.
Valdez added a defensive highlight, throwing out her 12th base runner of the season, ranking second in the Big 12.
Texas Tech wraps up the regular season this weekend with a three-game road series at BYU in Provo.
