$800k in Dimes Spill Across Texas Highway After Semi-Truck Crash

ALVORD, TX — A semi-truck transporting millions of dimes overturned early Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 81/287, spilling an estimated $800,000 in loose dimes across the southbound lanes.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Hwy 81/287 near S. Farm Road 1655. The driver of the 18-wheeler veered off the road, overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled onto its side.

DPS says the crash released approximately eight million dimes onto the highway.

Both the driver and a passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are currently in stable condition, DPS confirmed.

Cleanup efforts lasted well into the evening, with crews still working past 6:0 p.m. to recover the scattered coins. The highway remained partially closed throughout the day, leading to significant traffic delays in the area.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the origin or destination of the coin shipment.
