LUBBOCK, TX — A man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly assaulting another man with a glass bottle in the rear patio of Kong’s in the Depot District.
According to court documents, officers patrolled the Depot District on foot at around 1:00 a.m. on May 23 when they overheard people outside Kong’s, located at 1707 Texas Avenue, calling for medical help.
When they approached the entrance, officers saw a large pool of blood on the floor and quickly located a man with a severe, actively bleeding wound on his left cheek.
The victim told officers he had been hit with an unknown object by a person he could not recognize, but knew he was wearing a white T-shirt. Officers searched the area and soon found Mark Casias, 41, inside the bar, attempting to order more drinks.
Court documents state his clothes were covered in what appeared to be fresh blood, and he was immediately taken into custody at the scene.
The bar staff at Kong’s reported that an altercation between Casias and the victim had broken out for unknown reasons. Officers later recovered a broken glass bottle at the scene, which was in line with the victim’s injuries.
While booking Casias, officers discovered a baggie containing a white powdery substance in his property. Field testing confirmed the substance was cocaine, and it weighed approximately one gram.
Casias was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges including Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
He remains in custody at LCDC on a $53,000 bond.
