LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved two administrative appointments during its meeting Thursday, naming Jack Purkeypile as executive principal and Vanessa Barboza-Silvas as principal of Cavazos Middle School.
Purkeypile, a veteran educator with more than 30 years in the district, will serve as a principal supervisor and coach in his new role. He began his career with Lubbock ISD in 1994 as a teacher at Irons Junior High School and has since held leadership positions at Irons, Evans Middle School, Coronado High School, and Monterey High School.
He spent the past 14 years as principal at Monterey. Purkeypile holds both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education from Texas Tech University.
Barboza-Silvas, currently the academic dean at Cavazos Middle School, brings over a decade of experience in instructional leadership. She previously served as an academic dean fellow at Wolffarth Elementary, an instructional coach and AVID coordinator at Dunbar College Preparatory Academy, and a classroom teacher at several district campuses.
A graduate of Texas Tech University, she holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s in educational leadership. She is also a graduate of the Texas Tech Principal Fellows Program and is currently participating in the Holdsworth Principal Leadership Program.
