Congressman Arrington Speaks on Texas Tech Shooting

LUBBOCK, TX — House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington recently released a statement regarding the shooting at Texas Tech University on Tuesday morning.

"My heart is with the Texas Tech Police Department and the two officers injured this morning," Arrington said.

"While I am relieved to hear their injuries are non-life-threatening, please join me in praying for their speedy recovery. I am grateful for all who wear the badge and defend our communities - this is another reminder of the risks they take to keep us safe."

At around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Lubbock Police Officers were in the midst of investigating a suspicious vehicle near Jones AT&T Stadium when the suspect reportedly pulled a gun and opened fire.

The officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Their identities, as well as that of the suspect, have not been released.

I am grateful for all who wear the badge and defend our communities," Arrington continued. "This is another reminder of the risks they take to keep us safe."
