LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech guard Donovan Atwell has been selected to compete in the Men’s 3-Point Championship, part of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships scheduled for April 3 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The event will air nationally on ESPN on April 5.
Atwell, a senior from Huntersville, North Carolina, set a Texas Tech single-season record with 130 made 3-pointers this season. He ranked second nationally in total makes and averaged 3.82 per game while shooting 45.8% from beyond the arc, third-best in the country.
His 130 3-pointers broke the previous program record of 94 set by Cory Carr. Atwell also set a Texas Tech single-season Big 12 record by shooting 47.9% from 3-point range in conference play.
Atwell averaged 13.5 points per game this season and earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team honors. A transfer from UNC Greensboro, he finished his collegiate career with 1,348 points and a 41.5% shooting mark from 3-point range.
He becomes the third Red Raider to compete in the event, joining Ronald Ross (2005) and Jarrius Jackson (2007).
The annual competition features some of the nation’s top men’s and women’s college basketball players competing in slam dunk and 3-point contests, along with a team shootout. Winners of the men’s and women’s 3-point contests advance to the Battle of the Champions.
