Colorado Teen Killed, Two Injured in Lamb County Crash

LAMB COUNTY, Texas — A 19-year-old man from Colorado was killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. on June 1. Authorities say a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Randy Lopez, 21, of Littlefield, was traveling westbound on County Road 242 and stopped at the intersection with US 385.

As Lopez approached the intersection, a southbound 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup hit his vehicle on the rear passenger side.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Zack Rankin, 19, of Lamar, Colorado, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he was later pronounced dead from injuries in the crash.

A passenger in Rankin’s vehicle, Hailey Spangler, 20, of Springlake, Texas, also was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to UMC and is reported to be in stable condition.

Lopez, the driver of the Dodge Ram, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Lamb Healthcare Center for treatment.

The posted speed limit at the crash site is 75 mph. Weather conditions were clear, and the roads were dry at the time of the incident.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
