Two Killed in Lubbock County Fatal Crash

 

Two killed in crash at FM 179, FM 2641 intersection in Lubbock County

LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX — Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of FM 179 and FM 2641 in Lubbock County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 4 p.m. July 10 at the intersection, where the posted speed limit is 75 mph. Weather conditions were clear, and the roadway was dry.

A preliminary DPS investigation found that a 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on FM 2641 and approached a stop sign at the intersection with FM 179. Investigators said the Camry continued through the stop sign and collided with the driver's side of a northbound 2022 Dodge Ram pickup.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 19-year-old Sammy Zapata of Lubbock, was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. DPS said he was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 87-year-old Burl Trotter of Littlefield, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was also wearing a seat belt, according to DPS.

The crash remains under investigation.
