Brownfield Woman Killed in Terry County Crash

BROWNFIELD, TX — A 20-year-old Brownfield woman was killed, and two people were injured in a head-on crash early Saturday morning in Terry County.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Sept. 12 on U.S. Highway 62, about 0.42 miles southwest of County Road 670, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A preliminary investigation found that Halee Williams, 20, of Brownfield, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Trax northeast in the southbound lanes of U.S. 62.

Williams' SUV collided head-on with a 2017 Ford F-150 driven by Rodrigo Lopez, 38, of Denver City. The collision caused Williams' vehicle to catch fire.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Lopez was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries. DPS reported that he was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the pickup, Breanna Cobbs, 32, of Hobbs, New Mexico, was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries. DPS reported that Cobbs was also not wearing a seat belt.

It was not known whether Williams was wearing a seat belt.

DPS reported clear weather and dry road conditions at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
