LUBBOCK, TX — The South Plains will experience a stretch of unsettled weather this week, with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms through Friday. Temperatures will stay cooler than average early in the week before a warm trend brings highs back into the 90s by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the greatest concern is the potential for flash flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday, and storms may bring heavy downpours. Rain chances taper slightly by the weekend, but isolated evening storms remain possible.
Monday begins with partly sunny skies and a high near 84°F, with easterly winds between 10 and 15 mph. Thunderstorms will likely develop late in the evening, mainly between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., and could bring damaging winds and quarter-size hail.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high near 81°F, and a 50% chance of storms that could produce heavy rainfall. Rain and storm activity will continue into the night, with a low around 62°F.
Wednesday brings another round of thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. The high will be near 81°F, with continued flooding concerns. Storm chances diminish slightly overnight, with a low near 63°F.
Thursday will be partly sunny and warmer, with a high near 87°F and southerly winds. An isolated evening storm is possible.
Friday starts a warmer, drier pattern, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 89°F. A slight chance of showers remains possible before midnight.
The weekend will be hot and mostly dry, with highs near 93°F and sunny skies. Isolated evening storms remain possible, though widespread rainfall is not expected.
