LUBBOCK, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 21 counties across Northwest Texas, including Lubbock, Hale, Hockley, Floyd, and Crosby counties. The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to start along U.S. Highway 385 after 4 p.m. and move east through the evening. Some of these storms could become severe, producing large hail up to golf ball size, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and locally heavy rainfall. While the tornado threat remains low, forecasters say an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Cities under the watch include Lubbock, Plainview, Levelland, Brownfield, Floydada, Childress, and others throughout the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and the southern Texas Panhandle.

Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon and Evening
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 40% chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday after 4 p.m., with a high near 85°F and strong south winds around 20 mph. The chance of storms increases to 50% Tuesday night, mainly before 1 a.m., with lows around 56°F. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible.
Storms will continue into midweek. On Wednesday, there is a 30% chance of storms after 4 p.m., and a 40% chance Wednesday night. Some of these could also be severe, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 50s.
