LUBBOCK, TX — A New Mexico woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Thursday night in Lubbock County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:06 p.m. Aug. 7 on Farm-to-Market Road 41 near County Road 1240.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling west on FM 41 when it left the roadway and entered the south borrow ditch. The vehicle went into a side skid, crossed back over the highway, entered the north borrow ditch and continued into a field, where it rolled over.
The driver, Kelly Pope, 41, of Hobbs, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS said she was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash occurred under clear weather and dry road conditions. The posted speed limit on FM 41 is 75 mph.
The investigation is ongoing.
